My age group likes Barack Obama; this is just about a "given" when talking about the election. If you like Hillary you are odd, and maybe even grandma-ish. The reasons for liking Barack are not very complicated. I will list a couple and hopefully, the New York Times will pick up on this and this blog will become the most popular website on the dern intra-net.
1. He isn't our parent's generation or of the sixties, which we're done with.
2. He isn't the 90's generation of heroes, like Bill Clinton remains to be, an he is not from the time of the happy-go-lucky 90's America. He is more international and seems to personify, somehow, our "globalization" as a country.
3. He isn't a rich white guy-politician, whom my generation considers untrustworthy/corrupt.
4. He has a message of change that appeals to us but he never talks about doing away with "the system" which my generation doesn't want to hear anymore about.
5. He has charisma - you don't feel he has any skeletons in his closet. He is an outside who made it on the inside.
Yes we can, means something. Our generation isn't a bunch of lazy arses, and Mrs. Clinton doesn't capture that particular feeling of wanting positive change. Hope I didn't just add shmushy-nothing writing to the world that perhaps five people per day will read, but I fear that's what I just did!
