The small interrogatives of my life,
hopping, chirping, flitting about,
eluding me since my childhood.
Tiny as birds, light as grasshoppers.
But when I grew up, I made them into heavy affirmatives
like fattened ducks or chickens that come home to roost
and can't rise up and fly:
Whatness, Whyness, Whoness. And birds even heavier than those:
Whereness, Awareness, Whither and Die.
